Finley's Fashion Show and Christmas in Waseca

Well, Ms. Bernhardt's winter break started a couple of days early due to Finley coming down with a mystery bacterial infection. Daycare called on Thursday morning during 1st hour and said Finners had a fever of 101 and had been crying since I dropped her off. I picked her up and took her to Urgent Care because all the doctors at our clinic were booked. When we got to the doctor, Finley's fever was at 103.5 and she was very sleepy. They swabbed her throat for strep, took a nasal swab for flu, took chest x-rays for pneumonia, tried to take a urine sample for a bladder infection, and took blood for whatever else it could be. Everything was negative, but her white cells were high which meant a bacterial infection. I took her home where she slept the rest of the day. I had to take her back to the doctor the next day for a follow-up, so I missed the day before winter break...I was really bummed ;) Anyway, Cam made Finners a little nest by the tree and she read and slept there until she felt better. Over the next couple of days, she donned some very interesting outfits. She truly loves hats, especially her baseball cap, and she will not go anywhere without her ladybug boots. She even sleeps in them because she won't let us take them off of her! She even had to have them on with her adorable hand-me-down skater outfit at Christmas in Waseca. Finley got lots of awesome stuff for Christmas, including a new table and chairs just her size, puzzles, books, shoes, a doctor kit, an aquadoodle, blocks, and her very fist map! She was a little jealous of Sadie's easel, though, since she simply adores drawing and the white board markers were lots of fun. Of all her gifts, her favorite might be the tiny Elmo doll she almost didn't open in her stocking. She won't go anywhere without it. She loves all her gifts, though, and has been playing her little heart out the last couple days. It's been fun for both Mommy and Finley to have new things to explore and do.

Happy 5th Birthday, Cousin Sadie!

Not only did we drive to Cross Lake in a snowstorm, but we also drove home in one, too. We had to make it back to attend Sadie's 5th birthday party. It was a High School Musical themed bash and Sadie made out like a bandit! Cam, Finley and I won the "best present" award by giving Sadie the Gabriella doll with the bedroom set. I've never won the award, so it was a very special day for me, too :) Happy Birthday, Sadie!
(P.S. Notice the Cinderella slippers Finley is wearing in the picture with the cake. She really does love a good pair of high heels!)

Early Christmas in Cross Lake

Last weekend, Auntie Annie and Uncle Luke, one of Annie's friends, Abby, Grandma Julie, Cam, Finley, and I made our way to Cross Lake to Great Grandma and Grandpa's house to make lefse. We drove there in a snowstorm, which made the normal trip extraordinarily long and scary. After fishtailing for no good reason in St. Cloud, we made it there very late - just in time for Finley to wake up and want to play! Besides cooking, eating, and drinking, we played lots of Nintendo Wii - so much so that Mommy couldn't move for 2 days afterward due to her sore muscles! Now, we can't wait for Christmas so we can go back and play some more :)

Finley, Artist Extraordinaire!

Finley and Mom stayed home from school last Monday - partly because Finley hadn't had a good night of sleep in half a week/had a cold/had lost her voice and partly because Mom needed a mental health day. Anyway, while Mom worked on some school stuff online, Finley was working quietly in the living room. After a few minutes, Mom realized Finley was working a little too quietly and went to check on her. Turns out, Finley had taken the purple crayon to three walls and the glass on the French doors. Actually, I keep finding purple crayon on different surfaces throughout the house, so I'm not sure this was a one-time activity! Unfortunately, I can't get the crayon off without also taking the cheap, K-mart paint off the walls, too, so it looks like a re-decoration might be taking place soon...

Winter Wonderland

Cam and Finley were able to get out and about to enjoy the 35 degree weather on Saturday morning. After the cold week we had prior, this felt like paradise! They went sledding down our mini hill and, as you can see, Cam taught her to throw a snowball. She wasn't entirely comfortable in the snow, but she was darn cute in her snow gear!
