Quick Update

We've been pretty boring here at the Bernhardt-Peterson household, but I'm sure we'll start getting some comments soon about how an update is needed! Mom has been very busy at school, serving on a very time-consuming committee that also leaves her a bit drained and depressed when she returns home. Dad still hates his job and wishes the economy would take a turn for the better so he can get the job he would have been offered a month ago. Finley doesn't have a clue as to the state of the world today and continues to grow and learn despite all the stress! Lucky for both Mom and Dad, she has been loving the kisses and hugs. Miss Trish at daycare told me that Finley has grown so much in the last week. She's been talking up a storm, signing (yes, signing, not singing) with every song, participating in circle time, and playing with her friends. Last night, I asked her where a variety of things in the house were, like the couch, the fridge, the high chair, the piano, the guitar, her book, her baby, etc., and she would point out everything. She also continues to count. Her favorite number is still two. In the bath tonight, I would hold up the letters that stick to the side of the tub and she would say, "B" for everything, but once I would tell her the real sound, she would try her hardest to make that sound. She's getting very good! Her favorite song right now is "Itsy Bitsy Spider". She's also proving to be quite a stereotypical girl, despite my efforts to be gender-neutral. After school, I was practicing my Halloween hair, which required pigtails, and Finley was tickled pink. She made me put her hair in barrettes and then when Daddy drove up, she stood in the window, pointing to her head. She also loves her fancy furry coat that Grandma Brenda bought for her - it's silky like her blanky on the inside and furry on the outside. That helps in the mornings when she's not always the happiest to be awake, poked and prodded.

Just because I'm home alone...

and bored and lonely (yes, Cam, this is a guilt trip for you! JK), I will post a few random pics. If you don't die of laughter from the second or the last picture, I don't know what's wrong with you. Finley has been quite the little stinker lately - I feel like that's been a theme throughout the life of this blog... But, anyway, she hasn't slept through the night since she was born, as you well know, and the last two nights have been worse than ever. Last night, Finley and I sat awake for 2 hours in the living room staring at the street light, and spent another hour getting my face kicked when I tried to get her to sleep in bed with us (while Cam slept, oblivious to it all. Oh, to be a man.). At least she's not screaming and crying in the middle of the night like she was when she was a baby, but I was starting to think there might be something wrong with her so I googled "my 20 month old won't sleep through the night" and there were whole chat rooms devoted to thousands of moms of kids 17 months and older who still don't sleep in their cribs and still drink from bottles and a lot of these moms are pregnant with their second children, so I started to feel a bit better. Anyway, nothing beats when she kisses my moles (she thinks they're "owies") or whispers me a secret - her new trick - so I guess I'll take the extra time I get to spend with her...even if it is in the middle of the night. Thank goodness it's MEA!

Finley and Fam at the Pumpkin Patch!

Finley and I are having a fine time relaxing over the MEA break, so I finally have some time to update the blog. Last weekend, Grandma and Grandpa B. met Megan, Phil, Sadie, and us at the pumpkin patch/apple farm in Elko. Finley fell in love with all the pumpkins and kept sitting on them with a huge smile on her face. They had little wagons to haul your pumpkins in and Sadie and Finley had a blast riding while Grandpa pulled them. We got to take a wagon ride behind a tractor all through the apple orchard and looked at the ducks, cow, chickens, and rabbit. Too bad we didn't have the wagon when we decided to go in the corn maze, though. The thing was a mile and a half long (we didn't know that before going in) and after a half hour (at least) of wandering and getting no where, Megan and Sadie both got a little nervous, while Finley just got downright ornery. It was pretty funny, though. We actually ended up sneaking out the side just before getting to the end because we were starting to think we might be lost in there forever! It was abnormally warm for a day in October - around 80 - so we were all pretty sweaty when we made it out. For all our hard work, we rewarded ourselves with homemade apple pie and ice cream. We all crashed hard that night - and amazingly, didn't dream about corn!

Growing up...

Finley is really growing up. Her latest obsession is the potty. She knew what it was the second I brought it home from Sadie's house. Unfortunately, she didn't know how it was to be used for a couple of days because she kept climbing in it with both feet! When she finally figured out that you sit on it, not in it, it didn't take long for her to figure out that a magazine is a nice addition. She's also been quite the goofball. When Daddy was watching the Simpsons the other night, she pulled her diaper down and mooned him! She giggled and knew she was being funny. She actually looked a lot like Homer!
