Summer Days

Finley and I have been staying very busy since summer began. She's learning lots of things by watching all the adults in her life. The other day, she got in my purse, found my emory board, and started filing her fingernails. One night when Cam was watching her while I ran errands, she kept putting her purse on her shoulder, then she'd kiss him and wave goodbye. As you can see from the second picture, she also has moved onto the stage where she likes to dress herself. She wouldn't go anywhere without her pink baseball cap and her pink tennies! She thinks she is such an adult. Today, Cam, Finley and I went to Theodore Wirth park and went on some beautiful trails in the Quaking Bog. It was very fun. It's so cool that we have those beautiful nature sanctuaries so close to us in the big city. I think we'll need to take the San Frannies there when they come in 12 days!! We can't wait!
P.S. The picture of "Josh and Jill" was Annie's and Cam's idea!

Weekend in Sioux Falls and...

Fun at the Pool!

She did it! She got in the water and even let me lay her on her tummy and float her around with only one arm touching her. I think it helped that her big cousin, Sadie, was there to show her how it's done. We had a fun day at the pool on a beautiful, sunny day. Now, both Mom and Finley are very exhausted and ready for bed!

Smarty Pants!

Here are just a few of the pictures that illustrate just how smart and adorable our little Finley is. Since I haven't blogged in awhile, I'm just going to use this opportunity to brag, brag, brag about my little stinker.
I was starting to get worried about her lack of talking, but in the last couple of days she has really started making strides. This morning, Cam said, "I love you, Finley" and we both freaked out when it sounded exactly like, "I love you, too" coming out of her dear mouth! She now says "car" when car's drive by, and she waves at every car, plane, person, train, and/or bike that she sees going by. She says, "it's ok" when she's scared, especially when she comes near the vacuum, of which she is terrified. Tonight, I was cleaning after she went to sleep and had been vacuuming the dining room. I went in her room to throw a dirty shirt in her hamper and she had been laying there awake because she heard the vacuum. I went over to her crib and she jumped up and said, "It's ok, it's ok!" I think her most surprising accomplishment is that she says, "Uncle Josh" when she looks at the picture Daddy got from Uncle Josh's bachelor party. Not only does she say it, she also points to him. Then, she points to Daddy and Dale if you ask her to, also. She's SOOO smart because, even if she can't say the word, she can point out pretty much any person in any picture or thing in her books, from Auntie Megan to Sadie to her many grandmas and grandpas to turtles to dogs to shoes (her favorite - oh how it makes her mom proud!) to trains to balls to yogurt to whatever else she has seen once before. She points to her one-year pictures and I say, "Who's that?" and she points to herself. Then, I say, "Where's Sadie?" and she points to Sadie. Last week, I took down all her unisex baby stuff in her bedroom and decorated it all girly. Tonight, I added some flowers to her curtain rod and, of course, our little curious cat picked out the flowers as soon as she walked into the room. One of the cutest things she has done recently is that, as I was getting ready for a bachelorette party last Saturday, she took my eyelash curler and knew just what to do with it - even if it was upside down! She rarely sees me get ready for anything so this was pretty surprising! As usual, Finley still loves to dance. Auntie Annie bought her some new crocs and she put them on and started dancing! It's just in her bones! And it's totally understandable because I feel like dancing everytime I get an adorable pair of shoes, too! Also, Grandma Julie bought her a new sand box/turtle that Finley spends hours in. Her daycare ladies bought her sand toys before she "graduated" and they have been put to great use in this turtle. Finley also loves to spin around until she gets dizzy and falls down and she also loves to tickle herself as she says "tickle tickle!" She is soooo much fun these days. I'm so glad I get to stay home for awhile with her.
Tomorrow, it's the pool! We'll see how she handles all the commotion and the water. She hasn't been so great with water lately, but maybe Sadie will help put her at ease. I hope so because we're staying in a hotel this weekend with Grandma and Grandpa B.!

Old Pictures

Since getting my new camera for Mother's Day, I've taken so many pictures, but I haven't had time to blog them all! Here are a couple of old ones from Mother's Day weekend. Auntie Annie and Finners look so lovely in the beautiful Spring sunshine. It's like they planned their outfits to look good on that day. I'm so thankful Finley has a farm to visit as we wouldn't want her to forget her roots!
The other two pictures are from a couple of weeks ago, when the weather first got nice. Finley did not like the feeling of grass on her bare feet, but it was so cute to see her little bare butt shining against the bright, green lawn that I couldn't help making her run around a little bit. As you can see from her dirty, little hand, she certainly has a love of the earth in her genes. She LOVES to take dirt from one of my flower pots and carry it to another one. Cam is training her to pick the dandelions, but we're finding it a little challenging to get her to understand that it's not ok to pick Mommy's expensive flowers! In an effort to get her to see the difference, I've been working on getting her to smell the flowers and say, "Ahhhhh!" She's a pretty good mimic, especially considering the flowers actually smell like stinky feet!

A Different Kind of Flower Girl

Just a few more pictures from our beautiful day. Finley was just one of the girls today, hanging with Mom and Auntie Annie by the pool.
